Big Bass Bonanza

We picked up Big Bass Bonanza expecting a throwaway five minutes and ended up passing the phone around the office for an hour. It's a bright, cheerful fishing game where the whole thing is built around timing and a satisfying loop of casting, watching, and reacting. The art is loud in a good way, all sunny water and cartoon fish, and the sound design does a lot of quiet work keeping you hooked.

The controls are the highlight. You do everything with taps and short holds, so it works perfectly one-handed while you're standing in a queue. There's a nice sense of rhythm once you learn how the reels of icons line up, and the game rewards patience without ever making you wait too long. Sessions are short by design, which is exactly what a mobile game like this should be.

It's not deep, and it doesn't pretend to be. But as a comfort game to open at the end of a long day, Big Bass Bonanza does its one job really well. We'd keep it installed.
